Here are some of my favorite places to
visit in the beautiful city of Astoria, Oregon, USA.
visit in the beautiful city of Astoria, Oregon, USA.
ASTORIA COLUMN
ASTORIA - MEGLER BRIDGE
Who can miss this long bridge that connects Astoria, Oregon and Point Ellice, Washington. The bridge is 6.6 kilometers long, and contains the longest continuous three-span through-truss in the world. By far the longest and most spectacular bridge I have ever crossed.
ASTORIA RIVER WALK
& ASTORIA RIVER TRAIL
Enjoy
a walk or bike along Astoria & Columbia River Railroad, while
seeing the beautiful waterfront view and the Astoria - Megler Bridge.
Along the way, you will find museums, restaurants, breweries, and the
Astoria Riverfront Trolley. You will also see the SEA LION DOCK, which
reminds me of San Francisco’s Pier 39, tons of Sea Lions just hanging
out on the dock.
This main attraction in the city of Astoria is a a 4.8 kilometer ride along Downtown Historic District, and it passes under the Astoria–Megler Bridge. To the east of the Maritime Museum, at 20th Street, it passes a former Spokane, Portland and Seattle Railway depot. The fare is only $1 per boarding, or $2 for an all-day pass. This is a fun way to go sight seeing along the riverfront.
A visit to this museum is fun and educational. It has the largest collection of Pacific Northwest maritime artifacts in the country. You will see full-size watercraft, paintings, figureheads, and weapons, private and military maritime operations.
Visit this Victorian home of Captain George Flavel. It was built in 1886, with elegant woodwork, period furnishings, and hardwood fireplace mantels. This house was also featured in the film “The Goonies” which was filmed in Astoria.
A very great park for camping or just picnic. This park has so many trails to walk, bike or run and beach access. You can also see the Wreck of the PETER IREDALE here, the sailing ship that went down in 1906.
Try out some of Astoria’s popular breweries, like the Fort George Brewery, Buoy Beer Co, Wet Dog Café & Brewery, The Growler Guys and many more.
